The Maths Club is a new initiative run by five 5th year students for 1st and 2nd year students. It takes place on alternate weeks during lunchtime and aims to improve student numeracy skills.
Before setting up the club the 5th year students participated in an eleven-week Student Leadership and Maths (SLAM) training programme in Trinity College. Thanks to SLAM the 5th years gained the necessary skills and tools required to run their own maths club. They also received training using the Khan Academy methodology, an online learning aid for Maths.
The Maths Club was run on alternating weeks for 12 weeks and was a great success. It is hoped that next year the outgoing 5th year students involved with the club will be able to pass on their expertise to TY volunteers. We hope that the Maths Club will continue to grow in popularity over the next academic year.
