The Green Schools is an international environmental educational initiative that aims to increase students' awareness of environmental issues.  Schools that successfully implement the programme are awarded the prestigious Green Flag.  Students are encouraged to channel this increased environmental awareness into positive environmental action within the school and wider area.  To date, the Green Schools Committee in Assumption Secondary School has earned three flags - for reducing litter, electricity costs and water costs.

Every two years, the Green Schools Committee submits an application for its next flag.  At present, we are working on getting our fourth flag for travel.

It is one of the many extracurricular activities in Assumption Secondary School and mixes responsibility with fun.  We currently have members from 1st to 6th year and new members are always welcome.   Those involved in the Green Schools Committee embody the many positive attributes that students at Assumption Secondary School have to offer - commitment, enterprise, teamwork, respect and kindness.

At present, Assumption Secondary School are the proud owners of four flags. These flags have been awarded for "Litter and Waste", "Energy", "Water" and "Travel". We are currently beginning our first year of working on our fifth flag which has the theme of "Biodiversity".

The theme "biodiversity" encourages students to focus on the habitats of their school environment - students are encouraged to make the habitat friendly for insects and small animals. Students are also encouraged to plant a variety of flowers and vegetables etc. Students will undertake "environmental reviews" of the school area and implement new and dynamic ways to help improve the school environment.

The committee meets every Friday at lunchtime to discuss ideas. Students from all years are represented within the committee and there is no cap on numbers - any student can join at anytime, new members are always welcome!"

Tionscnamh idirnáisiúnta oideachasúil é an Scoil Ghlas a chuireann cothú is caomhnú an chomhshaoil chun cinn i measc scoláirí.  Spreagtar daltaí chun gnímh maidir le caomhnú na timpeallachta i gcóngar is i gcéin.

Na scoltacha siúd a n-éiríonn leofa an clár a chur i bhfeidhm is ea a bhronntar orthu ná an brat glas.  Tá an scoil rannpháirteach sa tionscnamh seo agus is mór an ónóir an brat a fheiceáil faoi lánchuaille.
"Green School's is an extra curricular activity run within the school that counts students from every year group as a member. Green Schools is run in coordination with both An Tasice and Dublin City Council in order to encourage students to be more environmentally conscious. An Taisce and Dublin City Council award schools different flags based on the schools' commitment to improving the environment.
