  CAREER GUIDANCE

Picture

At Assumption Secondary School, the guidance service aims to promote self-awareness among students in a safe and supportive environment.  It also assists and encourages students to make informed decisions about personal, educational and vocational areas of their lives.

The Guidance Counsellor works closely with all Senior Cycle students to advise and assist them in both their Leaving Certificate subject and third-level course selection.  Some of the guidance activities that are available to students include -

  • One-to-one/group counselling and referral
  • Psychometric testing and interest inventories to assist educational and vocational planning
  • Career information, including attendance at career events such as the Higher Options Conference and college open days
  • Weekly careers guidance classes with presentations on topics such as CAO, HEAR, DARE, UCAS, QQI, CV preparation and interview skills

Students at Assumption Secondary School may also avail of a drop-in guidance service if they are feeling distressed or confused about any aspect of their lives.  The Guidance Counsellor frequently liaises with other members of the school Pastoral Care team in order to achieve the optimum outcome for a student.
