December 2020
Supporting the Safe Provision of Schooling Inspection & Report 2020
Last week we accepted an invitation by the Department of Education and Skills to facilitate an SSPS (Supporting the Safe Provision of Schooling) visit to our school. The Inspection Report based on their visit is attached. We are delighted to have ticked all the boxes and to receive positive affirmation in each area examined
As you are aware the safe and sustainable provision of schooling in the context of the current public health pandemic is an important national priority. Ensuring that schools are safe learning and working environments for all is vital.
In Assumption Secondary School we are following the guidance of the Department of Education to minimise the risk of COVID–19 for staff, learners, families and the wider community and we recognise the importance of the safe and sustainable provision of schooling for the health and wellbeing of students and of society as a whole.
The Inspectorate carried out the visit (and inspection) of our school in order to provide an assurance to the public that the Department’s guidelines are being implemented and to support schools in implementing them.
What happened during the visit?
The inspector engaged with:
  • The Principal & Deputy Principal
  • Our Lead Worker Representative
  • Staff members
  • Students

The Inspector reviewed:
  • Our school COVID-19 Policy Statement
  • Our school’s risk assessment to see that Covid-19 is added as a risk
  • Our contact tracing log/arrangements for signing in and out
  • Other relevant preparation and planning documentation

The Inspector observed:
  • Physical distancing arrangements
  • COVID-19 signage
  • Sanitizing units
  • Isolation area

The Inspector also conducted level 1 Child Protection Checks and our school met the requirements in relation to each regulation.
